Diva on Podcasting – Part One:

I’ve always wanted to be one of those people who is on top of the latest trends in consumer technology…first on my block with the latest gaming system, cell phone, camera, cam-corder, computer…but then I am still looking to find my source of disposable income and until I do I’ll just have to accept the fact that it’s not meant to be.

I finally snuck out and purchased an iPod in July of 2005. Mr. Diva was less than thrilled with me, but I had been asking for nearly 6 months! Oh, and the fact that my 15 year old sister had one, but not I, just made me want it more! Happy with my mini in tote I stumbled upon my first Podcast, Diggnation, featuring cutie Kevin Rose who I was familiar with from watching TechTv off and on. I was in love at first download.

I began adding more and more shows to my lil pod, such as FrankWit, Air Ferg, the Mediocre Show, and some show about Mondays that I totally can’t recall. I let a co-worker (the only other person in my department with an iPod) talk me into listening to Nobody Likes Onions. At first I wasn’t impressed…but by the 3rd download I was hooked. This was the first show to really make me laugh out loud in public. I wont get into my history with NLO at this time as I’m sure we will get to it soon enough.

Eventually that same co-worker, an aspiring stand up comedian, convinced me to co-host a Podcast with him. It took us about 4 moths to get everything set up…Naming the show, finding our host, building a website, familiarizing our selves with the community, purchasing the right hardware, and learning to use software.

After about 3 weeks of recording, editing, rerecording and editing, we posted the first show in early Feb 2006. We must have recorded that first on at least 7 times. I was so uncomfortable with my voice and kind of shy behind the mic…seriously…but we managed to work thru it and “The Dork and Diva Show” was born.

I still remember how exciting it was to see people were listening to the shows, as crappy as they started out. Unfortunately, my co-host became bitter (taking criticism to heart) and jealous of the attention I was receiving as the favored host…and I’m not saying that to brag…at the time I’d say 80% of Podcast listeners were male so of course the female will get more attention. Dork & Diva only lasted 10 episodes and by the end of April 2006 I found myself a lonely pod-chick. :(

Well….I have rambled on a bit more than I intended so I will leave this to be continued.

  1. Of course, you failed to mention the most special day of your life – the day your Broads signed on to be in the now famous Broad Cast! But I’ll forgive you in (RL) and (SL).
    Kisses,
