#Mashup Monday 11.22.10

Happy Monday!

I’ve been thinking a lot about what to include in this week’s #mashup post. It’s Thanksgiving week so naturally I wanted to include something festive, but apparently no one has taken on the task of mashing up Adam Sandler’s Thanksgiving Song yet. 🙁

1. Last week the new Harry Potter movie came out and in turn one of my Absolute Favorite Mashup artists released this movie inspired mashup.

Dark And Difficult Times (Harry Potter Mashup) – by Norwegian Recycling

2. If Bruno Mars isn’t the hottest thing on the radio right now, I don’t know what is. Here’s one that brings a new twist to an old 80’s hit from Belgium artists Jarod Ripley.

I.O.U Just the way U are – Bruno Mars vs. Freeez by Jarod Ripley

3. Okay, if you haven’t downloaded the new Girl Talk album All Day then something is wrong with you! There isn’t much more to say… just listen, then GO! Get these tracks and love ’em up!

All Day (the entire album in one seamless track as it’s meant to be heard) by Girl Talk

Till next week – keep that Bootie rockin!

Turkey Time!

Sorry, I couldn’t wait. I love love love Turkey and so Sunday night while perusing the isles of Shop-Rite I decided I was roasting a turkey for the week.

My Second turkey ever and it came out pretty tasty! Luckily I have a newer oven which runs pretty close in temperature to the settings.

I ended up slicing most of it for lunches, chopped off the wings and drumsticks for dinners and I’ll throw the rest of it in the crock-pot tonight with some veggies for turkey noodle soup!

Nom nom nom!!

I could hardly wait for lunch today knowing that there was a turkey sandwich waiting for me in my lunchbox…. but now…. I need a nap!

#Mashup Monday 11.15.10

Welcome to another Monday and three more amazing Mashups!

1. This one popped up over on MashupTown today from French Mashup Artist Amoraboy. I believe this is my first time hearing a track of his. What a great first impression!

Feel the Joker – Steve Miller Band vs Robbie Williams by Amoraboy

2. Keeping with the old school rock vibes – this Mashup gives me the warm fuzzies! and this DJ is fast becoming tops in my most played list.

I Got More Than a Feeling – Boston vs The Black Eyed Peas by MadMixMustang

3. Lastly a dedication to my fellow New Jersians. I was fortunate to have seen Bon Jovi  live this summer at the new Giant’s Stadium and it was nothing short of awesome! … even if I did have a 3 day hangover 🙂

Seven Nation Prayer – Bon Jovi vs The White Stripes by DJ Lobsterdust

My Kitchen Wish-list

It’s been a little over a year since I began cooking for myself and have really gotten into making a weekly pot o’something and baking the occasional muffins/cookies/cupcakes, but my poor kitchen is quite lacking in the tools department so here are the top 5 items on my Kitchen Wish-list:

1. A proper hand mixer! Since recently developing carpal tunnel it’s become more apparent that this tool is a must have… especially if you tasted the icing on my cupcakes last weekend. Mixing by hand really can’t compare to the electric hand mixer’s ability to create light and fluffy icing.

2. A Food Processor! Another area where carpal tunnel has taken a toll on me is in chopping. I have a mandolin, but after that one incident where I nearly lost a finger I try to limit my use of it. Plus, a food processor can do so much more for my soups and salads!

3. Proper Mixing bowls! I have a total of One. And it’s not even a very big one at that. Not only would having a couple on hand be helpful, but it would save so much prep time when I am having to mix one thing, then wash the bowl to mix up something else for the same recipe. ugh.

4. Cutting Boards! I purchased a bunch of those disposable ones once, which are great for keeping a sanitary kitchen – each one marked veggie, meat, chicken, or fish – but they have no weight to them and so they shift and slide and just don’t hold any ground compared to a real cutting board.

5. Bake-ware! The more I have the more I can Bake! Give me a couple standard loaf pans, cupcake pans and cookie sheets and I’ll be in Betty Crocker Heaven! I’ve never used the new fancy silicone ones, so maybe I can get some feedback on how those compare to the old school metal?

That’s all it will take to make this Diva even more happily domesticated and keep things cooking in my kitchen. So now the question is which are the best purchases for my needs?

Oh and if there are any manufacturers reading this blog please contact me!! I would love to do some product reviews!!

Why Twitter?

Once upon a time I was in a dead-end marriage. My self esteem was at an all time low, all my friends were miles away and began to feel very anti-social.

I needed an outlet.

My computer became my source of socialization out side of work and I immersed myself in online communities. It started with MySpace (before it got all trashy), forums, then Second Life.

It was a way for me to escape my reality and connect to interesting people from all over the world. I’ve made some amazing friends online, many who I have been fortunate enough to meet through conventions and local event.

Twitter buzz began around this time 2006 and I totally didn’t get it. What was the point? Most of the people I socialized with online were in Second Life so why did I need to “follow” them on Twitter? And who’s idea was this 140 character limitation!?

Two months later I caved.

I got tired of feeling left out and I caught a case of the beta bug, which over the next couple years would lead me on a wild goose chase for the next great networking fad, but Twitter never faded.

Three years, a Divorce and some odd months later I’m still here. My contributions to Twitter have evolved from being part of the early stage community where it seemed like everybody was connected to my present day narcissistic babble.

So why Twitter?

My Twitter is a community of my peers. A support system. All of my closest friends are on Twitter and we use it as a place to keep up with each other thought the day. It’s convenient like that. Sure I could sit down and write an email to each of them or blast a few general paragraphs out to the group, but it’s just easier to Tweet.

There is always a conversation happening. Wether it be about life, relationships, celebrity gossip, current events, or the latest gadgets released. You can easily dip in an out as time and attention span allows.

It is and always has been the fastest and most efficient way to share content. From my personal blogs and podcasts to upcoming events. A simple Tweet (with the proper formatting) can be easily Tweeted and Re-Tweeted to your followers and beyond.

And most of all – Twitter is my very own Life Line. A history of my life over the past few years that I occasionally refer to. I love to read back on where I have been and how far I have come.

To some it may seem silly, a waste of time and such, but to me it’s obviously much much more.

What is it for you?
