Divorce is not a Dirty Word

Past generations may disagree, but it’s 2010 people and I’m here to tell you differently.

Divorce (IMO) is reset button. It’s a chance for me to build a better life for myself, to learn to be independent, to grow as an individual as opposed to as a “couple”, an opportunity to find new happiness, it’s freedom from “us” and now it’s All About ME!

Sure I had it easy because my Ex and I are still friends and our split was for the most part quite amicable. And I realize in many cases it may not seem so much “greener grass”, but for me it is… or at least this is how I choose to perceive it.

So why should I be subjected to feeling pitied for? Why should I be made to feel guilty for celebrating this milestone in my life?

It’s time society change their views. I am not a victim. I don’t need your sad faces when I mention I’m divorced. I am embracing my decision to end the life I started and begin anew.

Perhaps I just need to develop a new term or hybrid of the word to make my situation more acceptable to others. Would that help?

Suggestions are welcome in comments!

Valentine’s Day & Single?

So, this is my first official Valentine’s Day Single and corporate sent an email out the other day suggesting a Valentine’s Day Survival Guide for both the love struck and the singles… yeah, well let me just say I could have done with out their NOT so helpful suggestions!

They suggested two free events to attend, but both venues are in NYC (a 90 min train ride … on a school night). One event is your typical “Singles Party” and why wouldn’t I want to be surrounded by other singles? Honestly, I don’t know why they don’t just give us our own damned island!?

The other option really irks me…”Bring a picture of your Ex to display on a dart board and unleash your fury. Hit the bull’s eye and win open bar for an hour”. I get that there are plenty of scorned people out there, but honestly? Do I have to be angry and hostile just because I am single? Oh and there will be free Bud Light just for bringing a photo! Ew! They couldn’t pay me to drink that piss!

I’m really disappointed with the negativity directed to us singles on this particular day. Just because there is no one to shower us with kisses, chocolates or cheesy cupid cards does not mean we can’t have a happy Valentine’s Day and celebrate our love of being Single!

That being said, I am toying with the idea of raffling myself off to a luck local for a Valentine’s Day date. I’m still sorting the details in my head and working up the nerve to do it, so maybe this weekend I will get some inspiration and toss up a web page.

Otherwise I’ll be calling the spa and booking myself a nice, long, relaxing massage :)

Singletude

I don’t talk much about my personal life here, despite it being my personal blog and being so public online with my constant feed of Twitter and Flickr.

It’s been 4 weeks since I officially became a Single Chick. I’m living on my own for the first time in my life, which at 34 years old is long over due!

I’ve been fortunate enough to have lots of support from friends online and off. I’ve joined the online dating community and have even been on a few dates!

This new life is already full of new opportunities and adventures, such as working with SingleEdition.com to help promote Healthy, Happy, Single Lifestyles. I’ve gotten quite a few really great products that are perfect and useful for singlehood, such as my Gloveables!

Gloveables!

Talk about making cleaning fun! Fashion and function all in one!

I’ve received quite a few request to participate in product reviews lately. I must be on some special list or something, even Nokia contacted me to be a part of their 24/7 Tour of the new N97. Unfortunately, that opportunity came at the wrong time for me and I had to pass … but after seeing that they sent 4 guys on the trip, I’m kind of disappointed. I was very interested to get a woman’s views of the device. That being said – Nokia, you have my info – send me an N97 and I will give it a true test!!

Next on my list will be a re-branding of sorts for my Podcast, The-Broad-Cast, I know you are all wicked excited!! After 3 years, Kat and I have decided to spice things up a bit. We have a new “Broad” and all new topics in the same old fashion you’ve come to love/hate :D
