Whoa November

Last night I caught a tweet from my dear friend Lynette with a link to her post on November being National Podcast Post Month. Turns out it’s also National Blog Post Month or NaBloPoMo :) along with a few other causes all centered around content creation as she explains.

Well, I failed on the Podcast efforts, but since I actually happened to blog yesterday let’s see how far I can take this month long challenge to produce some content! …. Notice I didn’t say “quality” content ;)

Day 2 and My November is already off to a great start! Yesterday I started a new month’s challenge at the gym and when I got home I made a big ole pot of meatballs and sauce (yes I had meatballs for breakfast – what?).

Today I am ditching work early to Rock the Vote! Don’t forget FourSquare peeps, when you check in at your voting location you get a fancy “I Voted” badge! Revision: Be sure to Shout: I voted to get your badge!

Then I am off to the city for SingleEdition’sfinal “Live the Life You Love” of the year and I am truly looking forward to this event and the awesome women I expect to see in attendance.

This evenings topics cover How Guys Really Think and How to Get the Right One Interested in You, Discrimination against singles in the workplace, and Insights on how to  handle rejection in relationships.

If you are a single woman in NYC and you can get yourself to the Samsung Experience store in Columbus Circle tonight by 6:30pm I highly suggest you do so!

Happy Movember!

That’s right, the month formerly known as November is now socially recognized as Movember.

I’m sure you are wondering what the heck is Movember?

Well, we all know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month (and shame on me for not dedicating more posts to the boobies!) so naturally we need a month to recognize and raise awareness for Men’s prostate cancer … and thus Movember was born.

You can get all the details on this cause and how you can contribute at http://us.movember.com.

As I did last year, I have changed my Twitter pic to reflect my celebratory Mo’ … I grow a lovely pink stache don’t you think?

According to the official Style Guide I’d say I’m rockin a bit of “Undercover Brother”.

I wouldn’t be suprised if there is an app out there to “Mo’ Yourself” … if so, please post a link in the comments !

The Death of RSS?

I went on a little blog surfing adventure last night in search of some fun new feeds for my Google Reader. I was shocked that out of the umpteen blogs I discovered and wanted to keep tabs on only ONE had a proper RSS Button for me to easily subscribe.

Is RSS a Dead method of Syndication for our Web Content?

When I first discovered Blogging and Podcasting years ago the first essential rule of content creation was syndication. So it blows me away that this seems to be an element which has been lost.

So, I asked Twitter and while the responses were not overwhelming the few that I received gave me a bit of insight. Am I right in assuming that the common bloggers of today are less ambitious about gaining readership than those launching 3-5 years ago?

Maybe we should look at the platforms in use? Are facilitators like Blogger, WordPress, and Tumblr at fault for not educating users of the benefits of using syndication? Do they make it so easy to start a blog that the fundamentals are totally lost!?

What does this mean for the future?

Are we to assume that our readers are savvy enough to know that most RSS readers allow you to simply enter the URL of a blog to subscribe? or that if readers really want to keep up with our postings they will check back every so often to see what’s up? What about all the benefit of using services like FeedBurner with their “SmartFeed” and “FeedFlare”… not to mention analytics?

Do today’s bloggers even care about Syndication?

With Twitter and the likes making it so easy to “share” content with your friends/followers could this be the new choice of syndication? Do bloggers now rely on tweeted links and Re-Tweets to get content read and gain new readers?

Maybe I’m making a mountain out of a mole-hill here, but I encourage any bloggers to leave a comment on the following three questions:
  1. Does your blog offer an In-Your-Face method to subscribe to the blog’s feed?
  2. How do YOU, the blogger get your content out to the world?
  3. How do your readers consume your content?

Soul-mates

I’ve been thinking a lot about the idea of a soul-mate lately. I’ve always believed that somewhere out there was someone who shared a connection with me greater then this life. My one true love.

Yes, I believe in past lives and I feel that our souls carry a connection from life to life and if you are lucky, and the connection is strong, then fate will bring you together in future lives.

The Urban Dictionary defines a soul-mate as “The one person who can always make you smile, who shares your hopes and dreams, who makes you whole.” Based on this I have been fortunate enough to have found many soul-mates, but not “The One”. No, he is still out there somewhere… hopefully in search of me too.

Further definition states “Folklore claims that when a soul descends to earth it splits in two, each half of the soul inhabiting a separate body. These two people are forever after ‘soulmates,’ and will never be complete until they find one another.” How utterly fairy tale…I can just feel the dreamy sparkles in my eyes.

So, I asked my friends on Twitter and Facebook if they believed in soul-mates and after the responses I received I am starting to think now that soul-mates can be greater then just your one true love.

According to Merriam-Webster.com a Soul-mate is defined as “a person who is perfectly suited to another in temperament”, which very well could mean best friends and such. Especially my BFFs…they’d never be able to stand me with out a similar temperament. :D

Well, Perhaps they are the people who are most meaningful in your life. Those who take you at your best or your worst and love you unconditionally? The ones who make you laugh so hard you cry? Those who are always there for you no matter what?

All I know is I really like the idea of a soul-mate. I imagine one day mine will find me out of the blue, very random and completely unexpected… then we will ride off into the sunset.

Ok, enough of the day dreaming. Must get back to work, but I am interested to hear if anyone out there has found their soul-mate and the story that goes along with it.

Please do share!

#2500Condoms

Every once in a while I catch a “Re-Tweet to Win” in my Twitter stream. I know of a few friends who have won some interesting prizes as the result of Re-Tweeting, but never did I imagine I would end up with a prize of 2500 Condoms!

Thanks to the awesome folks at Leftos and OneCondoms I’m now the proud owner of “a Football Fields length of Condoms” which is approximately 2500 condoms!! Yes, Really!!

When the box arrived I was SHOCKED at it’s size… I hadn’t imagined how many 2500 condoms really were I guess!

So now the question… What to do with all these condoms!?

I’ve gotten a lot of feedback from Twitter and the general public….along with a handful of personal orders for  share of my bounty, which I’ll be shipping out in about a week.

Well, It’s Fleet Week in NYC and as a tradition my BFF Kelly and I are hitting the streets for some eye candy. Armed with hundreds of Condoms we should have no troubles making the streets of NYC Safer for our Sea Men and hopefully put a few smiles on faces :)

I’ll try to remember to capture a few Kodak moments from this adventure and report back to you on the success of our mission!

Happy Memorial Day! Stay Safe and Call me if you’re in need of condoms!! lol
